November 2019 Update | It's Give to the Max Time! | Exodus Lending - Exodus Lending

November 2019 Update

By Kaitlyn Szabo November 6, 2019

It’s Give to the Max time in Minnesota!

Starting NOW through the end of the day on Thursday, November 14th, we have a goal to raise $3,000 plus another $3,000 in matching funds to bring us to $6,000 in total. With $6,000, we can help 6 participants through our interest-free refinancing program.

For more than 370 Minnesotans, our interest-free refinancing program is a gamechanger. People like Anaiah are free from payday loan debt thanks to Exodus Lending. While we have come a long way in our four years of operation, there is still plenty more work to do.

We need your help to stop the debt trap, for good.

Anaiah’s Story

In a moment of heightened vulnerability, Anaiah* turned to the payday lender. She was told by these lenders, “Oh, you’ll pay it off really fast… don’t worry about it.” Yet, she found herself paying twice what she borrowed and still owing more

I got caught deeper and deeper and deeper in it because of the way it’s set up. And then the money you’re paying on it like every two weeks, they get the interest on it, and before you do anything, you’re kind of stuck in it.

Feeling frustrated with her payday loan experience, she searched for payday loan help online and discovered Exodus Lending. Anaiah felt connected to our faith-based origins and understandable, supportive program.

I think whoever came up with [Exodus Lending] has a heart…[Anna Li, the program coordinator] listened, helped me through it, gave me some incentive that I was able to be rewarded” and “encouraged to stick with it.

Now, Anaiah feels empowered to tell people to avoid them or to refer them to our program if they need help like she once did.

Join the Fight to Stop the Debt Trap!

With Minnesotans statewide still struggling with immoral debt and a national political climate favoring lenders over consumers, our program is needed. As our executive director, Sara Nelson-Pallmeyer writes in her letter to the editor in today’s Star Tribune,

Payday lenders may have the resources to influence the White House, but that doesn’t mean what they are pushing for is the will of the people.

At Exodus Lending, we know people are more than money. Our community-driven work is well-supported and well-equipped to refinance more loans to qualified Minnesotans, but we need your continued enthusiasm to keep our work thriving!

UPDATE: We raised over $8,700 for Exodus Lending!

Between November 1st and the 14th, our supporters contributed $5,713 toward Exodus Lending’s interest-free refinancing program. That’s almost double our $3,000 goal. Plus, we reached our $3,000 match, leaving us with a total of $8,713!

Because of this incredible generosity, we can help 8 participants through our year-long program. We are grateful for your partnership in our fight to eradicate predatory lending in Minnesota. Our work is only possible because of supporters like you. Thank you!
