June 2019 Update

By Kaitlyn Szabo June 17, 2019

Join us for our Summer Fundraiser!

Play games, experience community, and participate in a lively conversation about the dangers of predatory lending at Exodus Lending’s annual summer fundraiser on July 16th, from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at PAIKKA in St. Paul.

Our executive director, Sara Nelson-Pallmeyer, will use YOUR questions to guide a community dialogue featuring Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and Diane Standaert, Director of State Policy at the Center for Responsible Lending. Celebrate Exodus Lending’s successes and learn how you can help stop the payday loan debt trap during this energizing and engaging evening.

Single admission tickets are $25. Group rate tickets for parties of two or more are $20 per ticket. Limited tickets will be available at the door for $30 each. Ticket price includes admission, food, and two beverages.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Exodus Lending continues to reach major milestones…

We’ve hit yet another incredible program milestone here at Exodus Lending. Last week, we enrolled our 300th program participant! By serving hundreds of Minnesotans throughout the state and refinancing more than 400 predatory loans on their behalf, we’ve saved participants an estimated $710,283.

Plus, we’re thrilled to announce that Exodus Lending is now a Charities Review Council Meets Standards Organization! The Meets Standards seal demonstrates our alignment with widely accepted standards of accountability, responsibility, integrity, and transparency to donors as well as the general public.

All these accomplishments are worthy of a celebration! How does July 16th sound?

…but there’s STILL plenty of work to do.

Unfortunately, the 36% interest rate cap on payday loans did not come to fruition during this year’s state legislative session. On the federal level, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has delayed implementation of the ability-to-repay provision of its Payday Rule until late next year. While we are disappointed by these developments, our Exodus Lending team is determined to renew our advocacy efforts in 2020.

We’ll tell you all about our plans at our Dive Deeper fundraiser on July 16th.

To accomplish all the exciting work ahead, we’re looking to grow our team with an AmeriCorps VISTA position for the service year 2019 to 2020. We’ve extended our VISTA application deadline to July 1st, 2019.
