Mission, vision, and values
Exodus Financial Services, known as Exodus Lending, is a first-of-its-kind nonprofit organization. Our mission is to provide trapped payday borrowers a just pathway to financial stability. We were founded by members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (HTLC) and other supporters of our goals in the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and have obtained our 501(c)(3) status as a nonprofit and we work with people trapped in payday loan debt throughout the state of Minnesota.
We envision a world where all people are free from the bondage of debt caused by predatory lenders. We seek to accompany people as they move from shame, isolation, and fear, and toward connectedness, courage and justice!
We do that through our values of transformation, relationship, transparency and faith-rooted action. We welcome people of all backgrounds and personal beliefs to participate in our programs and support our common mission.
We seek lasting change for the individuals and families, for financial institutions, and for our society.
We desire a strong relationship with our clients and with community partners to accomplish our shared goals.
We aim for clarity with our clients and donors every step of the way.
We are people of faith who believe that the work of liberation is central to the traditions we embody.
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is a vibrant congregation with a justice oriented history dating back over a hundred years. When a payday store opened nearby the church building in South Minneapolis in 2011, church members took notice. They decided to take a stand with community members who were trapped and facing economic crisis. Through courage and determination to end the crisis, Exodus Lending came to life.
